MAAM 2024 Annual Meeting has ended
Thursday October 10, 2024 9:45am - 11:00am PDT
These days, many museums are re-examining the histories they present to offer more accurate perspectives on past events. Two emerging museums–the Black Inventors Hall of Fame and the Princeton Einstein Museum–aim to address misconceptions and challenge outright lies about some of the most important thinkers of modern times. Reframing the past involves community partnerships to raise optimism and pride among those whom history has often intentionally overlooked.

An opening quiz will challenge any preconceived notions of audience members. Then, session attendees will hear from the two museum founders–James Howard and Elizabeth Romanaux–who were each inspired to set the record straight about African American inventors and about Albert Einstein’s ardent fight against racism. The session will include a spirited discussion about how to uncover and authenticate genuine stories from diverse communities, as well as peeks into the visions and planning processes for these two emerging institutions.
