MAAM 2024 Annual Meeting has ended
Wednesday October 9, 2024 3:30pm - 4:45pm PDT
Winterthur’s "New Perspectives" program seeks to spark connections between people and collections by facilitating conversation and hands-on experience with unique materials in the library’s special collections. This presentation will discuss the collaborative effort between staff in Interpretation and the Library to create a new type of program at Winterthur: a guide-led, hands-on round table discussion utilizing library collections. This program utilizes tools and techniques used by historians to engage participants in activities that deepen their connection to material culture – enabling diverse subjects and stories to be appreciated through a new lens, fostering skill-building in critical looking and understanding, and encouraging the utilization of these tools in their wider museum experiences. Speakers will highlight the creation process and address the pros and cons of the most current iteration, with the goal of inspiring attendees to imagine and execute non-tour-based programs through collaboration with colleagues from diverse areas of their institutions.
