MAAM 2024 Annual Meeting has ended
Wednesday October 9, 2024 1:45pm - 3:00pm PDT
If museums seek to be relevant to their communities, they need to be responsive to current issues and ideas. At present, however,  America is experiencing an intense sense of division and outrage, fueled by disinformation and politicization. In these circumstances, our museums are struggling to expand their role as community forums, especially around immediate, hot-button subjects.

Convening open-ended conversations about difficult issues requires specific skills, coaching, planning, and preparation. This roundtable discussion will feature four presenters who are experienced in helping museums organize and facilitate community convenings. Participants in this session will learn about some of the basic elements that can reduce risk and increase opportunities for successful community engagement related to volatile issues. Preparing to be more responsive in the present will empower our museums to remain relevant in the long-term.
